Why I am Proud of my Country

an expository essay by Grace Nathania

Indonesia is located at South-East Asia and it has thirty four provinces inside. Indonesia is a developing country where the people work hard in order to develop Indonesia. There are some of the things that make me proud of my country while some people say that Indonesia is a corrupt country.

First, Indonesia has a lot of beautiful places and natural resources. We can find a lot of beautiful islands in Indonesia such as Bali, Raja Ampat, and Mount Bromo. People around the world often visit Indonesia during their holidays or for business. Some countries also import Indonesia’s natural resources because they cannot find the natural resources like in Indonesia.

Second, Bahasa Indonesia is said as one of the hardest language. It is true since there are some words that foreign people cannot pronounce well. Bahasa Indonesia has a quite hard grammar so that if we want to be able to both speak and write in Bahasa Indonesia, we should learn first. As Indonesian and I speak Bahasa Indonesia, I am proud of it.

Third, there are many tribes, races, and wide range cultures in Indonesia but Indonesia is still as one. Indonesia has a motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika which means although we are different, we are still one. Indonesians respect each other although others come from different tribes, races, and cultures. The varieties and the respect are the things I am proud of Indonesia.

Fourth, Indonesia adopts democratic government where the people hold the highest power of authority. The people is the one who lead the country so that they can express their aspirations without the need to feel threaten.

There are still many things I am proud of my country but those four things are the thing I am proud most. People might say that Indonesia is a corrupt country or whatever but I have a lot of things that I am proud of my country.

Watch the video bellow:
the video is in Bahasa but it's really worth to watch :D

INDONESIA IS NOT PERFECT BUT IT IS AWESOME!
Thanks God, I'm Indonesian!

#RememberingLeeKuanYew

Hi guys! Sorry for not updating this blog lately. School is very busy and this week I have my national examination. Good luck for all 9th graders in Indonesia for national examination. I really hope all of us can get the best result.

So, I just watched two videos on youtube. Those are made by Singaporeans as a tribute to their former prime minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. I just wanna share these two videos to all the readers here. I found those videos were really good to watch. The videos show the things that Mr Lee Kuan Yew had done for Singapore during his tenure. I hope these video will make us realise and encourage us to be better. Enjoy :

When a Country is Weak, It Will be Bullied

Written by a Singaporean

If you follow the news of the execution of The Bali 9, I’m sure as an Asian, no matter which country you are from, you can see with both eyes open, how the Westerners are just a bunch of bullies.

This is directed at Australians, French, and Brazilians, who stay in Asian countries. If you DO NOT RESPECT the local laws, and think that you can do as you wish, then please don’t come at all. We DO NOT welcome you.

We Singaporeans, Indonesians or Malaysians prefer other tourists than your kind. Please bring your poison somewhere else.

Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia’s laws are very clear, crystal clear. We will HANG drug traffickers. What’s so difficult to understand here?

Now your citizens have been caught red-handed, but you arrogant big countries still want to try to bully developing country like Indonesia to make them submit to your demands.

USA hangs and kills thousands of drug traffickers, why don’t you make noise there? USA almost destroyed Iraq, a country that never posed threats to anybody, why didn’t you make noise there?

These people bring poisons and destroy our youths, and you ask us to forgive them? They knew the risk, they took it, what else is there to say?

Brazil, a corrupt country that is losing its fight with the drug cartels, a country with extremely high crime rates in their cities, tries to teach other countries how to punish their own citizen’s crimes…. what a joke!

Australia, another country that is losing the drug war. Australia’s teen drug abuse is among the highest in the developed countries, Google it and see for yourself. With crime gangs and drug lords infesting their cities and universities, why is the Government now trying to defend the Drug Lord’s life. What message are you sending to your youths? That drug use is nothing illegal, as even your prime minister is defending it? What a joke!

France and the rest of Europe, what else is there to say? Ever visited Amsterdam? Drug capital of the world. Junkies everywhere. Unemployed youths snorting cannabis in coffee shops… what a joke!

So to all Australians, please don’t come to Bali, please, we beg you. We really DO NOT WANT your kind there. Please don’t come to Singapore, we don’t want you here. Please go to countries where you can snort cocaine freely like Brazil or Europe.

I urge Asian countries especially Thailand and The Philippines, to shore up your Asian Pride. Don’t let these westerners invade your country culturally. When I visited most of Thai and Philippine beaches and cities, what I saw were not tourist, but gangs of Europeans and Eastern Europeans forging ties selling things from drugs to prostitution. Slowly but sure, it kills the host country eventually.

To all westerners, if your country is crumbling and failing, don’t drag us down with you.

Thank You.

Copy Paste vs Wanna Pee

Hi guysss! How's life? Sorry for not updating this blog for such a long time. I don't have enough time to update this blog because school is so busy T_T Hmm so this afternoon, I had a scholarship tuition class and something silly happened to me :') I have written it in a recount essay but I change the name since it privacy hahaha :p So please read the essay bellow ;D

By Grace Nathania

It was a cold grey afternoon with a dull sky threatening rain. The atmosphere really supported the six students in the tuition class to sleep. We were dog-tired and kept yawning, hoping that the tuition class would end fast. The teacher, Mr Alfo, tried to encourage us since the test would be coming in a short time.

Mr Alfo discussed about an important subjects that afternoon. The class was not as noisy as usual and only some student paid attention to what he was talking about. In order to raise the spirit of the students, he asked that which part we should do first in reading comprehension. Everyone was so quiet that fortunately my friend, Ray, answered his question, “Answering the questions.”

“Why should we answer the question first?” asked Mr Alfo.

“Because it is the easiest,” Ray exclaimed.

“Is there another reason why?”

Ray smiled and he did not answer it again. Mr Alfo looked the whole students with his warm smile, hoping that one would answer him. I whispered to Ray, “Because it is only a copy paste.” Mr Alfo heard that I said something, then he said, “Yes, please.” I was so aghast that I wondered why suddenly he said like that to me. I showed my confused face and then I asked him what actually I had said before. “Did not you say that you want to pee?” He asked confusedly. What? Geez, how could he say like that? Cherry blossoms bloomed on my cheeks as six pairs of eyes stared at me. Mr Alfo did not hear what I had said clearly and replied me wrongly. I did not understand how “copy paste” could sound like “want to pee” in Bahasa Indonesia.

Mr Alfo showed his confused face too, and luckily Ray defended me by telling him that I said “copy paste” not “want to pee”. I laughed a bit, then raved that I did not say I wanted to pee. I was like, oh my God how he could get what I said wrongly. I felt so embarrassed but fortunately there was only Cherry who laughed a bit at me. This thing was one of the silliest things that had ever happened in my life.

RIP Lee Kuan Yew

Source: here

Because I don't live in Singapore and I'm not Singaporean, I get this news quite late. That time, I just arrived at home from school and I directly cheeked my instagram. I looked some of my seniors and friends posted about Lee Kuan Yew. I was so shocked that Lee Kuan Yew had passed away.

Lee Kuan Yew is the founding father of modern Singapore. He built Singapore from third workd to first so that no wonder all Singaporeans honor him. He was so wise during his reign. Because of his spirit, we can see how Singapore is very developed nowadays. Singapore is one of the the central countries of medicine research in the world. We can also see that Singapore's economics growing so fast. Singapore's defense come from its own young men who should join national service when they turned 18 for 2 years. And there are a lot of things that he has done in Singapore in order to make Singapore as the first country.

Lee Kuan Yew is a very cool figure to me and thanks to Him for making Singapore such a develop country. Rest in peace, sir! :)

Let Life Flow

Yesterday, I had a quite sad conversation with one of my best friends. When we were talking about a birthday dinner, she suddenly called my name. It was very sudden and I was also so sure that she wanted to tell me something.

Then she said,"If now you are afraid of your scholarship test, now I'm afraid to be very far from all of my friends."

I was so confused why she talked like that. So I asked her why. She explained to me that her parents had got green card so that they would move to America soon. I was so aghast to hear that news. It was like seriously?

She told me how afraid she was. Could I have a friend there? Could I survive? and a lot of another question. I could not say like "be patient","keep calm","be optimist" or something like that because I knew it wasn't easy for her to face it.

She also said that now she understood why I was so afraid about my scholarship test ahead. I could only say,"Just follow your parents because they know the best thing for you. It's true that life in America is much better than in Indonesia. So I think it's fine to move there because you still can see your friends' face through video call since nowadays technologies are very developed. We will never know where life brings us. Life is like water, so let it flow. Haha."

We shared stories and both of us tried to keep our chin up although it was hard to do.

Sometimes, when we tell our problems to someone, they will only like "be patient." It's easy for them to say like that because they don't try to put their selves on the others' shoes. They don't know how hard it is for the one who face the problems. People are needed to be more understanding, aren't they?

And isn't it true that life is like water? It isn't easy to understand what God has planned for us, is it? So let life flow and let God be the current :)

Repaying Kindness

by Grace Nathania

A golden glow spread across the sky as the sun chased the night sky away. I opened my eyes, stretched my body and felt the warmth of the morning. I looked at a clock next to my bed. I was so aghast that I directly jumped from my bed and ran as fast as cheetah to bathroom. I was ready in fifteen minutes in order to arrive at school punctually.

Arriving at school, I was in hurry, walking fast. I carried some folders and accidentally, I dropped them. All of the papers inside them flew into the sky. I felt quite annoyed because it made me not only late but also made my papers crumpled. My junior who walked in front of me looked back and she directly helped me to tidy all the papers. I was astonished that she was really helpful when realising the bell would rang in a minute and she would be late. I thanked her and asked her to meet me up in break time.

In break time, my eyes could not catch where she was. After ten minutes of waiting, she came and explained why she was late. I thanked her again and gave her a bar of white chocolate because I could not repay her by anything else. She accepted it and she said that she was very pleased to help me. She also said that a kindness should not always be repaid by things, but it should be repaid by continuing the kindness to others by the one who had been helped. Since that time, I repaid her kindness by doing kindness to others.

Night!

A Bouquet of 89 Flowers

by Grace Nathania

Picture: here
Edited by me

A golden glow spread across the sky as the sun chased the night sky away. Birds sang a song beautifully and the warmth of the morning greeted my day. I woke up and directly took a bath. I whistled as long as I was in the shower. It was because that day was valentine day and I had an appointment to go out with my boyfriend.

I got ready by wearing my favorite dress and I combed my hair neatly. I was waiting in the living room when suddenly I heard a sound of a car horn which I knew that my boyfriend had come. I also heard he knocked the door and I came outside. I could tell he was my boyfriend by smelling his smell and hearing his voice. He grabbed my hand to take me into his car. I touched his face and smiled. I did not know where we would go but I believed he would give me a special thing.

Maybe it took around 30 minutes until the car stopped. I asked him where we were but he kept silent. He opened the door for me and he grabbed my hand. He asked me to wait at somewhere I did not know. He left me for some minutes but I could hear he was out from a shop. He grabbed my hand again to guide me to another place.

We sat on a bench in the garden. I knew we were in the garden because wind blew my hair and there were very noisy. Suddenly he grabbed my hands. gave me a bouquet of flowers and said that he loved me to the infinity and beyond. Carefully I counted how many flowers in the bouquet. I was really confused when I had finished counting because there were only 89 flowers. I asked him why 89 flowers, why not 100 flowers. He answered me calmly that 8 symbolized his eyes which would always replace my eyes and 9 symbolized my ears which would always replace his ear. Tears welled up on my eyes as I heard his answer.

I was so happy that I could not help thinking that I was the luckiest girl in the world to have such a sweet boyfriend. He was not only sweet but also really understanding. A bouquet of 89 flowers was the best bouquet I had ever got in my life. Indeed at first I had not realized 89 having such a meaningful meaning. I am blind but he is not blind so that his eyes will always be my eyes and he is deaf but I am not deaf so that my ears will always be his ears.

Merry Riana The Movie

Hi guys! How's life? School is really busy now! I'm gonna be crazy hahaha
So now I'm gonna write about an very inspiring movie that I watched 2 weeks ago. I forced my mom to watch together because it was such a really good movie. Fortunately, my mom was willing to go after having had arguments with me hahaha

Title : Merry Riana Mimpi Sejuta Dollar (2014)
Casts : Chelsea Islan, Dion Wiyoko, Kimberly Ryder,
Ferry Salim, Cynthia Lamusu
Director : Hestu Saputra
Studio : MD Pictures

Synopsis(source: google):
Jakarta, 1998 situation of Jakarta wasn't conducive. Riots happened everywhere. Economic situation was getting worse and worse. This thing happened to Merry Riana's family. Even she should move to Singapore as her parents wanted. Without enough money, she was succeed arriving at Singapore. Her parents said she should meet their relative there. Merry didn't find her relative because her relative was in trouble there. She went alone in The Lion City,
Merry always thought and finally she searched for an information of her high school's friend, Irene, who was studying in Singapore. After getting Irene's contact, finally they met up. With Irene's help, Merry could find a place to stay in Irene's dorm for a while. Because of strict rules in both campus and Singapore, Irene got warned not to bring strangers to sleepover in dorm except students in her campus. Fortunately, in Irene's campus there had Student Loan program and definitely Irene asked Merry to enroll herself and join the test.
After joining the test, Merry passed. But that happy news brought new problem for her life. She was confused how to pay campus fee in total almost S$40000 and she should have a guarantor during her stayed in Singapore. Whereas, she stayed alone and she didn't have any abilities and enough money as well.
Irene asked for Alva, her senior and also her crush, help to be Merry's guarantor. Alva agreed to help Merry. Time traveled, Merry always searched to get a job to be able living in Singapore independently. She tried many jobs until she played investing in stock market that had high risk, Because Alva often met and saw Merry's hard works, he paid attention and liked Merry. Merry couldn't accept Alva easily because she didn't want to hurt her best friend, Irene, feeling. How was the next Merry's life and love destiny? Would all of her dreams come true?

This movie has some love parts but I don't care because what I wanna to watch is how she struggled to live oversea with not enough money. She has a good personality and she is a hard worker. Tears started trickling down on my cheeks when I was watching this movie. The point is, this movie is really touching! Maybe you will say that I'm too over but everything has different effect to every people. So, you can't judge me! Haha ;D
This film has a lot of moral lessons that will be useful for our life ahead. A quote that I still remember until now, "I might not be the smartest nor the strongest but I am the most persistent. I will fight till the end and never give up!"
This movie is really successful to burn my spirit and yes I might not be the smartest but I will be the most persistent among all! I really recommended this movie. I give 9/10! ;D

The tickets ;D

Not only me, you really can as well!

If our work hard carries with its good way, intention, and
determination, we can achieve dream.

Life isn't enough to only downsize and survive
but we should struggle... until the end

With His way as well, God gives grace in the most difficult
situation that we have ever faced.

A support from the closest people is a source of peaceful
when we struggle and the effect is really big!

I should be brave
YES! I should be brave

I will stand from failure for the sake of achieving the real success

Life is a struggle that we should win, a challenge that we should
face, and God's grace that we should be grateful

The hardest time in struggling is a sign that successful is getting
closer and closer.

Everything is getting easier  and easier when we still have a hope.

I'll fight till the end and never give up!

Terrible Day

by Grace Nathania

Wind blew so cool that made people like to linger at park. Park was full of people and all leaves were colored in autumn foliage. Sun almost lost its light. I still sat on the farthest bench and looked around. People seemed so happy but it did not apply to me. I was pensive in the same way I looked down at the footpath that full of leaves.

I did not know what had happened to me. I felt so wretched that my life seemed going to end in a short period. My mind was surrounded by lots of questions. This kind of situation was like I did not have any strengths to face reality. I was not only depressed but also hopeless.

Could I stop? Could I exit? Could I move into somewhere else? Why should I be here? Was everything impossible to happen? Why was life very hard? Could I survive? Was I that afraid to lose?

When I was thinking about those questions, suddenly my classmate came and asked why my face was crumpled. I told her what I felt but tears started trickling down on my cheeks as I cried. I was so lucky that she came. She did not only give me advice for my problem but she comforted me as well. I felt much better and I kept her advice in my mind.

Sleepy Day

By Grace Nathania

Sun woke up and shone brightly. I tried to open my eyes but I failed. I took my blanket back to cover my whole body and came back to sleep. Suddenly my brother screamed at me. I was so shocked that I definitely woke up.

Arriving at school, I ran to my class fast because bell would ring in a minute. I sat on my chair and breathed because I lost my breath. Class was full of laughing but I did not care because I felt really sleepy.

Science teacher both entered and began the class. I looked at him and yawned. Every time he taught, he was like telling bedtime story, So, when he taught, I would always try to stay alive in order to be away from punishment.

That day was my unlucky day. I could not survive in that class although I had glared at my teacher. My eyes closed slowly and everything was getting darker and darker. There was nothing I could hear. My brain started exploring to another place that full of stars.

When my brain was exploring, suddenly someone screamed out my name. I was so shocked that I opened my eyes. My teacher stood next to me and glared fiercely at me. I knew the consequence and my feet started to make new steps. I went out of the class and went to the toilet first to gain my strength. After gaining my strength, I went to punishment room. Fortunately, I did not get a hard punishment because I was only asked to make "Sleep Time Report in a Week". Since that punishment, it became my habit to sleep earlier and I have never slept above 12am.

Don't You Ever Dare to Give Up!

Let them judge
They don't know what you are going through
Let them laugh
Let them say whatever they want to say about you

But,
Don't listen
Don't think
Don't feel

Be strong
Be sure
Be aware
Be true to yourself
Know what you want
Stay passionate
Stop limiting yourself

And most of all,
DON'T YOU EVER DARE TO GIVE UP!

AirAsia QZ 8501

Hi guys. How's life?

First, we are gonna say our deepest condolences for all families and friends of those who were in Air Asia QZ 8501 plane crash. May God gives patience and strength to pass this.

We really don't have any ideas about this thing. I was really shocked when I heard Airasia QZ 8501 had lost. As we know, AirAsia has never had plane crash. They always takes the passengers to their destination safely. I read on internet and watch from news that this happened due to bad weather. People around the world were also shocked. Another country such as Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and America help to search this plane.

This is a difficult situation for all the families and friends of those who were in air Asia QZ 8501. Fortunately, after 3 days searching for it, there's a result. Both the debris of the plane and some corpses were found.

We can only say stay strong and help in prayer. May God bless all of you.
