Hi, Jogjakarta!

HELLO GUYSSSS! So sorry for not updating this blog for so lllllloooooonnnnnngggggg. There are lots of things to do. Well, as I have promised last year, I would like to share my trip to Malang-Jogjakarta. l'll just post my English task here okay! Hehe. So here you go:

After struggling in mid-term test for a week, I got my reward for all the efforts I had put in mid-term test. On the first day of October, I, together with school mates, went to Malang, East Java as well as Jogjakarta, Central Java. It took a whole day from Bandung to Malang and we went there by bus. This trip was considered as study tour since we had to do several tasks such as Biology, Chemistry, History, and Geography. This trip was for 6 nights 7 days, 4 nights in the bus and 3 nights in the hotel, so it was very tiring since we spent most of the nights in bus. In this trip, we visited Mount Bromo, Jatim Park, and Museum Angkut in Malang. Although most of the visited places were in Malang, I had my most unforgettable event in Jogjakarta.

We only spent a night in Jogjakarta but it was unforgettable because we had a free time to explore Jogjakarta by ourselves. Since there was a free time, I had planned to go to several famous places in Jogjakarta. Before exploring Jogjakarta, we first had a bath since it took half of the day to go from Malang to Jogjakarta and we stayed overnight in the bus. I explored Jogjakarta with 4 of my best friends, Naftalia, Erika, Sophie, and Caroline. Our first destination was Tempo Gelato at Prawirotaman Street. Tempo Gelato was famous by both of its delicious gelato and cone and its cozy place.  Since Jogjakarta was still safe for students like us to go by ourselves, we chose to go by public bus (Trans Jogja) to explore Jogjakarta. We could go around Jogjakarta just with Rp 3,500 because Trans Jogja had a low fare.

Using public bus without adults was the first time both for me and my friends. Personally, Trans Jogja was quite cool because there was a “steward” inside the bus. Even there was a term “transit” to just change the bus. To go Tempo Gelato, we needed to take 2 buses, bus 1A then changed into bus 3A. It took almost 1.5 hours from the hotel to Tempo Gelato because of the bus’s route. We had the first bus, 1A, driven smoothly so we felt safe. However, the second bus we took, 3A, driven recklessly till we had to keep our selves still sit on the chair.

After 1.5 hours journey, we had eventually arrived at Ujung Benteng Wetan bus stop. At first, I had thought that we would have directly arrived in front of Tempo Gelato or at least we only had to walk a little towards our first destination. It turned out that we still needed to walk 1.5 kilometers to reach it. The street was quite dark and deserted we were passing by. We were afraid if we went to a wrong direction because we only relied on the GPS. Fortunately, we arrived at the street where Tempo Gelato was located, Prawirotaman Street. However, we still had to walk for another 250 meters to reach it. Well, we were amazed by the street because it looked like Kuta Street. The street was full of foreigners especially Caucasians. On the way to Tempo Gelato, we bumped into 2 foreigners and one of them greeted us so that we greeted them back.

It was such a tiring night since we had to walked for 1.5 kilometers. Nonetheless, our fatigue paid off by how cozy Tempo Gelato was. Though it was really cold inside, which was caused by the air conditioner’s temperature, the decoration made it seem warm. There we could taste a teaspoon of any gelato we wanted for free. After tasting several flavors, I decided to buy a cone of 2 different gelato flavors for Rp 25,000. I bought Raspberry and Good Time Cookie flavors and it tasted heaven. It was so delicious that if it was possible I would like to buy more than one but unfortunately one had already made us feel full. It was not only the gelato that tasted delicious but also the cone. The cone tasted like a Netherlands’ stroopwaffle.

In Tempo Gelato, I met my friends, Della. She is 3 years older than me and she studies in Gajah Mada University so that we planned to meet each other. She needed to take 30 minutes journey to reach Tempo Gelato at Prawirotaman Street by motorbike. She also helped me to buy famous snack from Jogjakarta, bakpia. I was so happy to meet her again and we also planned to meet up in Bandung because she would visit Bandung soon. It was also a part of unforgettable moments in Jogjakarta.

I scream for ice cream!

After having our bellies full, we continued our journey to another place in Jogjakarta. For our second destination, instead of taking bus, we took a taxi due to limited time. First, we had planned to go to Malioboro Street but one of my friends said that Malioboro was not safe enough for us since we were all girls. The taxi driver suggested us to go to Rotawijayan Village which also sold a souvenir, especially t-shirt and Batik. The driver said that Rotawijayan Village had better quality than all the street shops along Maliboro. Then we decided to change our destination from Maliboro to Rotawijayan. Rotawijayan Village was not as crowded as Malioboro Street but it was also our first experience visiting it. I had even just known that Rotawijayan Village was located around Jogjakarta’s Palace.

Well, my journey in Jogjakarta was my most unforgettable event during study tour 2016 because I could travel around Jogjakarta by myself. I could also experience take public transportation especially bus since I had never taken it in Bandung. Tasting the famous gelato was also one of my most unforgettable events even I said that it was the best gelato I had ever tried. Even though this study tour absorbed our energy, it was such a fun and unforgettable.
